Douglas County High School students, who are participants in the Youth Leadership Douglas County program, spent the day considering all forms of civil government and about Liberty and Constitution Day on Feb 20, 2008.

We shared the origin and history of Liberty Day and Constitution Day and discussed the use of the liberty cards and asked questions of the students. The students were encouragedto use the cards with their younger brothers and sisters. It was also suggested that they consider sharing Liberty and Constitution Day with students in lower grades. The topic was an interesting one to my audience.

Kristine Turner, who oversees the program, will explore the possibility of the Douglas County School District in implementing the federal statute regarding Constitution Day. Kristine is the Chairman of the Douglas County School District.

It's important, no vital, that our children understand their Constitution and Declaration of Independence and the protections they provide to safeguard their life, liberty and property.

Please contact your local coordinator to volunteer, plan or participate in a Liberty Day event.
